Sons of Confederate Veterans sue the State of Florida over proposed “Confederate Heritage” license plate.
Well folks, our elected government officials are at it again! This time it is the legislature of the State of Florida making sure the taxpayers of their state are protected from the “Controversial” Confederate Heritage plate. It seems the SCV collected the required $60,000 and the 30,000 signatures that were required to have the plate issued but the State of Florida just decided they didn’t want to play by their own rules and “tabled” the application to the bottom of some deep dark bureaucratic desk drawer. If that wasn’t enough, they also conveniently forgot to refund the SCV’s $60,000 dollars that had already been paid to the state. How do you like them apples? It just goes to show you that the government of the State of Florida will not only go out of their way to ensure that Confederate History and our Southern Heritage are swept under rug but they will steal from us while they do it. I will go ahead and post the official press release that was published on the plate’s official website.
“The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV), Florida Division have filed suit in Federal Court to force the State of Florida to approve a proposed CONFEDERATE HERITAGE specialty license plate for the state.
The bill authorizing the CONFEDERATE HERITAGE specialty plate was introduced and filed during the 2008 Legislative Session by State Representative Don Brown (R-Holmes County) but was not taken up in committee.
“The SCV did everything that was required by Florida Statute to have the Confederate Heritage plate approved by the Legislature and we were not given the time of day by the Florida Legislature,” stated SCV Plate Chairman John W. Adams of Deltona, Florida.
“Ten states have similar plates and the courts have, without exception, ordered that the plates be produced by the states involved – we seek the same consideration here in Florida.”
The lawsuit seeks to order to the State of Florida to create and distribute the plate to the 67 counties along with the other 106 specialty plates that have been approved and distributed.
Proceeds from the plate will be used to repair and enhance veteran’s cemeteries in Florida; provide for academic grants and scholarships and support patriotism in Florida’s schools. The SCV is a nationally recognized historical organization comprised of individuals whose ancestors fought during the Civil War for the 11 states of the Confederacy and other states that provided soldiers for the effort. Florida was the third state to join the Confederacy on January 10, 1861.”
So there you have it, Florida will not issue a plate that is on the roads in 10 other states and stole the $60,000 dollars that were paid to them after the SCV met their requirements. Please consider donating to the Florida SCV to help cover their legal expenses in this court battle at this secure website. If you donate at least $100 you will be given a free Confederate Heritage front bumper plate for your vehicle.
Please, if you live in Florida, write or phone your elected representatives and let them know how you feel about this mockery of justice.
Thanks and God Bless
