NASCAR bans the General Lee over Confederate Flag rooftop

USA Today reports that NASCAR has ruled that the General Lee made famous in the Dukes of Hazzard should not be allowed to participate as the parade car before the March 4th Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.  NASCAR has originally scheduled the car which is now owned by Pro golfer Bubba Watson to appear before the race during the parade lap but has since rescinded the invite because the Confederate Battle Flag is painted on the car’s roof. NASCAR spokesman David Higdon had the following to say

"The image of the Confederate flag is not something that should play an official role in our sport as we continue to reach out to new fans and make NASCAR more inclusive,"

This is not the first time NASCAR has discriminated against our embattled emblem.  They have also refused participation of a car sponsored by the Sons of Confederate Veterans due to the inclusion of the Confederate Battle Flag in their logo.
