I’m a Good Old Rebel – The Song

The song which this website takes it’s name from was first penned in the late 1860s by Major Innes Randolph who during the war was a member of General J.E.B. Stuart’s staff.  It depicts the sentiments that many Confederate veterans felt towards the treatment the South was receiving under the Federal program of reconstruction.  The continued institution of punitive laws and the harsh treatment of Southern veterans at the hands of the occupying Federal force only served to further the divide between North and South instead of focusing on reconciliation.

To me, this song succinctly sums up the unvanquished spirit of the Confederate Soldier who even in defeat still maintained his convictions despite efforts by the agents of the Federal government to subjugate his will.  Over the last few decades the “politically correct” members of our society have increased their efforts to further “sanitize” our land of its Confederate History and remind us that we should be ashamed of our ancestors who fought so bravely for what they believed in. Perhaps we should take a page from Major Randolph’s song and remain unreconstructed because that is the only way we can hope to maintain what’s left of this part of our heritage.

The music used is the property of Sony Music by Hoyt Axton.

  2. I wish all Southern men would regrow a backbone and stand up against this Yankee nation that is demonstrating now as never before the consequences of our lost battles. The men of the south arise and stand up again! Show what it means to be a Southern Gentleman who adheres to the ORIGINAL constitutional principles. Let the reconstructed lick the boots of King Hussien Obama, they aren't worthy to be called Southrons.

  3. Thanks for the comments Frank! I'm glad you liked it. It's one of my favorite songs and it reminds me every time I hear it why I feel the way I do. It's the reason I named this sight what I did! Yessir, if more people would realize that the country is being run by those who have no right to make decisions for us we'd all be a lot better off. The right to govern belongs to the state!
